The Indian Railways has launched Unique Medical Identity Card (UMID), a Health card from the Indian Railway Medical department, to offer enhanced services to the medical benefits to the employees, pensioners, and their dependents. UMID card helps in providing a unique identity to every individual, which is further strengthened by the unique smart features of web-enabled QR codes and biometric identities. Featuring a common database at all India level, this mobile and web application helps in identifying medical beneficiaries across all health units that span across the Indian Railways. This card is being linked to the Hospital Information system of all railway hospitals in India.
